Inverness, Florida – Chief Chester W. Segers, U.S. Navy (Ret), 86, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis M. (Walsh) Segers. Born in Blount County, Alabama, a son of the late Clayton and Cotha Mae (McDonald) Segers, he resided in Pawtucket before moving to Florida in 1992. Chief Segers retired from the US Navy with over 21 years of service. He was awarded the Navy Unit Citation; 5 Good Conduct Medals; National Defense Service Medal; American Theatre Campaign Medal; WWII Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Old Antarctic Explorer’s Association and was among the first group to winter at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, where he served for 12 months. Chief Segers also served as Chef on President Truman’s yacht, the USS Williamsburg. Following his Naval service he was employed by James Ferrera & Sons, Inc., Canton, MA. He leaves a son, Michael C.
