Arthur P. Vacca, Jr.

With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arthur P.

Vacca, Jr., a devoted husband, father, and friend, who touched so many lives with his kind spirit and sense of adventure.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1936, Arthur’s journey through life was one filled with passion, dedication, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

In 1974, Arthur made the bold decision to leave the New England thoroughbred racing circuit, relocating his family to Key West, Florida— his personal “Camelot.” It was here that he found joy and purpose in the island’s vibrant community, the crystal-clear waters, the camaraderie of the island people, and the unique, rich local culture.

Arthur’s love for the sea led him to design and build two boats, Strawberry Hill I and Strawberry Hill II, from which he captained for charter and commercial fishing ventures.

His time as a captain was marked not only by his love for the water but also by his deep commitment to others.

Twice, Arthur participated in the Mariel Boat-lift, helping to reunite Cuban families separated by the Castro regime—a testament to his selflessness and compassion.

In the 1990s, Arthur worked closely with the U.S.

Navy SEALs and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, contributing to reconnaissance and surveillance missions, showcasing yet another facet of his diverse and accomplished life.

Although Arthur moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida in 2017, Key West remained forever close to his heart and was a cherished chapter in his life – a place of memories, friendships, and adventures that he never truly left behind.

Arthur is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores, and his loving daughters, Dana Lee and Kristal Marise.

His presence in their lives will be deeply missed, but they will carry on his memory and the love he shared with them.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Chapel Services at St.

Francis Cemetery Chapel, 202 Smithfield Ave., Pawtucket, RI, on Monday, September 23rd at 1 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St.

Ignatius Church in Tarpon Springs, to be announced.
