Antonio A. P. Cardoso

Pawtucket – Antonio A. P. Cardoso, 82, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, March 18, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Maria Leonor (Cordeiro) Cardoso for fifty-four loving years. Born in Carrapichana, Celorico da Beira, Portugal, he was the son of the late Alberto and Clotilde (Rodrigues-Pires) Cardoso. Antonio worked in banking prior to serving as a pilot in the Portuguese Air Force for seven years. After serving in the Portuguese Air Force, he became the manager of Montepio Bank, Mozambique and then a hotel manager in Lisbon. After immigrating to the United States in June of 1981, he was a supervisor at Slater Dye Works, Pawtucket and also taught English as a second language at CCRI. Antonio later worked at Mitkem Lab, Warwick, until retiring. Antonio, a true intellectual, was always seeking to learn more about the things he loved. He was a self-taught artist who loved photography and painting still life and landscapes in oils and acrylics. As an avid reader, he immersed himself in books on art history, world history and aviation. Antonio enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, having cookouts, going for car rides and especially taking his grandchildren out and teaching them to fish. Besides his loving wife, he leaves a son, Ricardo J. Cardoso and his wife, Valerie (Dunkel) Cardoso of Rehoboth; a daughter, Marina C. Cardoso of Pawtucket; two grandsons, Ian Cardoso and Evan Cardoso both of Rehoboth; a brother, Paulo Cardoso and his wife, Ana Maria, of Portugal; two brothers-in-law, Luciano Leonel Cordeiro and his wife, Rahyra, and Manuel Martins all of Portugal; two nephews, Mark Martins of Dublin, Ireland and Rui Cardoso of Portugal and a niece, Susana Cordeiro Inacio of Portugal. Antonio was the brother of the late Isabel Pires Cardoso Martins and brother-in-law of the late M. Helena Cordeiro. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
