Alice D. Gomes

East Providence – Alice D. (Duarte) Gomes, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Apolo Gomes. Born in New Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Claudina (Souza) Duarte. Alice was raised on the Island of Brava, Cape Verde Islands and moved to Providence in 1952, she has resided in East Providence since 1960. Alice was a member of the Bethany Church of the Nazarene and was a former member of the choir. She leaves six children, Claudio Gomes, Adriela Fernandes, Rosino Gomes, Egas Gomes, Claudina Farman and Jule Noack; two sisters, Barbara Bullock and Mabel Fortes; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Roger and Gilberto Gomes. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by Services at 10 a.m. in the Bethany Church of the Nazarene, 1275 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Interment will follow at Rumford Cemetery.
