Alfredo "Al" V. Simão

New Bedford - Alfredo “Al” V. Simão, 67, also of Florence, AZ, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021 in Boston, MA, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Maiato) Simão, who provided him with unconditional comfort and care throughout his illness for the past seventeen years. Born in Santa Bárbara-Além Capelas, on the island of São Miguel, Açores, he was the youngest of seven children of the late João and Ludovina (Vultão) Farias. With no formal education to speak of, Al used his strong work ethic and natural talents to create a livelihood for his family. He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and settled in New Bedford, MA, where he became a proud citizen of this country. Al worked as a foreman for twenty years at the former Chamberlain Mfg. Corp. in New Bedford. A gifted and meticulous tile setter, Al established East Coast Tile in 2001 when he relocated to Arizona, where he and Linda relished in their new environment. Upon retirement, Al returned to his roots in New Bedford and enjoyed being a snowbird while spending the summer months by the water, surrounded by his native culture. He took great pride in teaching his grandson the craft of tile setting, and the labors of honest, hard work. Al enjoyed tending to his yard, playing Marralhinha with his wonderful neighbors, and living everyday with full appreciation of the little things that mattered most. His quiet and beautiful demeanor will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed by Al’s humble presence. Besides his wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by his two loving daughters, Rosemary M. Simão of Arizona and Sandra M. Reis of Pawtucket; his pride and joy, a grandson, Kevin P. Reis, Jr. of Arizona; a sister, Alda Farias and her husband, Miguel, of New Bedford; a brother, João Farias of New Bedford; his beloved Shih Tzu, Khloe, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Moises, Ludovina, Octavio and Noé. The family would like to take an opportunity to thank everyone who has been so supportive during these trying years including the Maiato and Farias families, Marcus Campisi, and Dr. Glenn B. Rothman of AZ, who was an essential advocate in providing Al with the best possible quality of life. His funeral and interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend VISITATION on Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket.
