North Attleboro – Adelaide (Barcelos) Tessier, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of the late Rene R.
Born in Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Eleuteria (Enes) Barcelos.
Adelaide arrived to the United States in the late 1960’s; living with her mother, sister Arlete and family.
Soon after arriving, she began to look for work and learn the English language, with a focus of becoming a United States Citizen.
Adelaide was determined to reach her definition of the “American Dream.” Adelaide worked at a local factory.
She dressed every day, impeccably.
She would prepare her clothing for the week, cleaned, ironed, matching, accessories and all.
While working she became the caregiver of her elderly mother.
Also while working she met her future husband, Rene.
After her mother’s death in the 1980’s, she and Rene began to date.
He finally wore her down.
They married almost 10 years later.
She was a loving wife, and Rene adored her.
This was their first marriage, no children.
Adelaide was generous, always giving to her nieces and nephews.
She never forgot a birthday or a holiday.
She loved to bake and cook.
She loved to host and her face lit up whenever family came for a visit.
Her favorite was her “grand” niece Whitney.
She was committed to checking in on family, local and abroad, in Canada, Brasil, and the Azores.
She was a loving wife, a caring sister, and a generous, advice-giving aunt.
She is survived by five siblings, Arsenio of Canada, Jose of Lincoln, Benjamin of North Providence, sisters Egipcia and Arlete of Pawtucket.
She was the sister of the late Belmiro, Isaias, Joao, Jeremiah, Manuel, Fatima and Filomena.
Her funeral will be held on Friday beginning with visitation at 8:30 a.m. at WILLIAM W.
TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St.
Mary Church, 103 Pine St., Pawtucket.
Interment with her late husband will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Daggett Ave., Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Pawtucket Animal Shelter, C/O Pawtucket Police Department, 121 Roosevelt Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated.
