Roy S. Taylor, Sr.

Port Charlotte, FL - Roy S. Taylor, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Helena E (LaFrance) Taylor for seventy-two beautiful years. Born in Pawtucket, RI, Roy was the son of the late Tom and Julia (Zuba) Taylor. Roy leaves his three children, Susan Laurie and her husband Joseph, of Cape Coral, Fl, Roy (Spud) S. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Crystal, of Greenville, RI, and Lori Medeiros of Port Charlotte, Fl; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Navy for nine years. He joined the Pawtucket Police Department in 1955 and retired after thirty years of service. During that time, he was promoted to sergeant where some of his duties included being head of the Community Relations team, Detective Sergeant and Prosecution Officer. He was the president of the Pawtucket Pony Colt League. Roy and his wife also were the proprietors of several area gas and service stations from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. They were the first to own and operate a self-service gas station in New England. Roy earned a bachelor’s degree from both, Roger Williams College and Bryant College. Roy loved boating with his family on Narragansett Bay where they fished, dug clams, and caught lobsters. He enjoyed his dogs and thoroughbred horses. Roy loved spending his mornings taking care of his horses with his son and grandsons by his side. He was the epitome of a family man - he loved his family most of all. He has left behind a devoted family with so many great memories of the hard-working, fun-loving man he was. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Visitation on Wednesday, September 18th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Committal Prayers and interment with his beloved wife will follow in the family plot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
