Maurice D. Bisson

Maurice D. "Moe" Bisson, 76 of Pawtucket, formerly Cumberland, passed away peacefully at his home August 24, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 40 years and best friend to Doris (Jackson) Bisson. Born in Pawtucket in December of 1938, he was the son of the late Cleophas and Yvonne (Legare) Bisson. Maurice owned and operated B&G Electric, Inc. in Pawtucket specializing in industrial, commercial and residential electrical contracting for 50 years before retiring in 2013. He was a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Pawtucket, a lifetime member of the LeFoyer Club, a lifetime member of Elks Club, a member of Squantum Association in East Providence and a 30 year member of the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford. Maurice also enjoyed sharing his technical expertise to help train students at the Davies Vocational School in Lincoln, RI. He graduated from Saint Raphael Academy with honors in 1957 and proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for 8 years after graduating at the top of his class. Moe was responsible for outfitting and repairing all of New England lighthouses during some of the worst weather events ensuring the safety of others. One particularly noteworthy moment occurred in 1959 during a severe coastal storm, which caused the lightship that Moe was aboard to break free from its 7,000 lb. anchor and drift 80 miles out to sea. The 45 man crew was adrift in 50 foot seas for four days. Moe climbed the mast and created an S.O.S beacon to signal for help which came by way of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Hornbeam and all survived due to Moe’s skill and bravery. These circumstances garnered a Purple Heart, which Moe selflessly declined. Besides Doris, he leaves four beautiful daughters, whom he devoted his lifetime to raising and keeping safe, Brenda L. Marchwicki and her husband Edward of Pawtucket, Deborah L. Bussiere and her husband James of Cumberland, Donna L. Burke and her husband Robert of Boxford, MA and Sheryl L. Bisson and her husband Philip Perot of Jacksonville, FL. and two grandchildren, William and Alexandra Burke. He also leaves four siblings, Raymond Bisson of Pawtucket, Anita Lagasse of Lincoln, Janet Jerald of Attleboro, MA, Constance Boucher of Cumberland, and the late Norman Bisson, Roger Bisson, Yvette Delisle and Pauline Bisson along with twenty nieces and nephews. Moe will be remembered mostly for the many friendships he cultivated over the years and the love and devotion he had for his four girls. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the William W. Tripp Funeral Home, located at 1008 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, RI and a Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at St. Cecilia's Church, Central Avenue, Pawtucket.
