Marie T. Burda

Seekonk – Marie T. Burda, Marie grew up in Pawtucket, RI, in a family foster home from the ages of 9-18 years old. She attended school through the 12th grade in Pawtucket. She was raised by Jesse Quirk and Ann Parkinson. Her sisters were Joy, Jen and Grace. At 19 years old, Marie married Peter “Porky” Burda, whom she had three children with. Those children being, Lynn, David and Thomas. At that time the family lived in South Attleboro for nine years. Then they moved to Rehoboth and raised their kids in town for 10 years. Porky and Marie then decided to move north to Sandwich, NH. They resided there for twenty-five years. Marie worked at Moultonborough Academy and loved working there with all the kids. In her twenty-third year of residency, Porky became ill. Marie took 24 hour care of him by herself. Around that time Marie had lost her youngest grandchild, Mariah Burda. A short time later her husband passed. Marie was so consumed with Porky she hadn't notice that a lump was growing on her face. It was a finding associated with her diagnosis of neck cancer. She then decided to move back to Massachusetts with her daughter, Lynn. Not long after moving back too Massachusetts, we found out she had throat cancer. Aside from this set back, Marie found great joy in living back home surrounded by her family. Shortly after settling into her new home she met Armand “Sonny” Guertin. Marie fell in love with Sonny and in time moved in with him. They spent eight years together. Sonny's daughter, Missy and her daughters became Marie's extended family. During Marie's chemo and radiation for her cancer, her throat became compromised. She was unable to swallow most foods. She had recently come down with pneumonia twice and while fighting it lost a great deal of weight. We decided a feeding tube would be best, so we went ahead and had one implanted. Her body unfortunately had suffered too much stress and damage. Sadly, we lost her in the early morning hours on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 at the young age of 75. Marie is survived by her three children, Lynn Steele, David Burda and Thomas Burda his wife, Jean Burda. Her grandkids, Jeslyn Sgro her husband Chris, Sgro, Gregory Steele his wife, Cassandra Steele and Kayla Burda. Also, her five great grandsons, Masen, Travis, Hunter, Carter and Grayson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend VISITATION on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the CHEETHAM Funeral Home, 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. The Funeral Service will be private.
