Robert E. Fontaine

Attleboro – Robert E. Fontaine, 77 of South Attleboro, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 after a long battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by his loving family; a testament to the love he shared his entire life. He was the beloved husband of Lucille J. (Major) Fontaine for 55 years. Born in Pawtucket, RI and a longtime resident of Seekonk, MA, he was a son of the late Leo and Ida (Dorais) Fontaine. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda J. Toupin of North Attleboro, MA and Donna M. Goodnow of Warwick, RI and three sons, Robert K. Fontaine of Merrimack, NH, Stephen M. Fontaine of Attleboro and David M. Fontaine of Dedham, MA. His greatest treasure and joy were his family, including 14 grandchildren ranging from age 27 to soon to be born twins. Nothing made him happier than sharing life’s special moments, and also the everyday ones, with his family. He takes these cherished memories with him for eternity. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and enjoyed cooking, woodworking, classic movies, history, and traveling. He and his wife spent winters in Florida for many years. A 1963 graduate of Bryant College, he spent most of his career as an engineer in the jewelry industry, most recently for 20 years as Chief Industrial Engineer at Leach & Garner Co. in Attleboro, MA, before retiring in 1993. He also leaves a sister Lucille Clement and three brothers, Norman Fontaine, Rene Fontaine, and Gerard Fontaine. He was predeceased by his sister Yvette Fontaine and brother Roger (Pete) Fontaine. His funeral with Military Honors will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. VISITATION will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. The family thanks you for your prayers, support and good wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Association - RI Chapter, 2915 Post Rd., Warwick, RI 02886, or to the St Vincent de Paul Society, St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro, MA 02703 are appreciated.
